Scientists with the Center for Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and Nanomedicine at Northeastern University published a paper in the August 2016 issue of the European Journal of Pharmaceutics and Biopharmaceutics. In this paper, titled “Anti-cancer activity of doxorubicin-loaded liposomes co-modified with transferrin and folic acid”, the researchers used SpectrumLabs 300 kDa Biotech CE pre-wetted dialysis tubing and 12-14 kDa Spectra/Por® 4 Standard RC dry dialysis tubing.

The researchers used our 300 kDa membrane to remove folic acid and the 12-14 kDa membrane “to exchange the outer liposomal buffer”. The scientists found that the processed liposomes were able to inhibit tumor growth.

Abstract: Cancer-specific drug delivery represents an attractive approach to prevent undesirable side-effects and increase the accumulation of the drug in the tumor. Surface modification of nanoparticles such as liposomes with targeting moieties specific to the up-regulated receptors on the surface of tumor cells thus represents an effective strategy.
